Montana Energy 2016 will feature keynote speakers Cloud Peak Energy Inc. CEO Colin Marshall & Ponderosa Advisors CEO Porter Bennett
Senator Steve Daines today announced Colin Marshall, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cloud Peak Energy Inc., and Porter Bennett, President and CEO of Ponderosa Advisors, will be featured as keynote speakers at Montana Energy 2016.
“I’m excited to announce that Colin Marshall and Porter Bennett will bring their insight and expertise to Montana Energy 2016 as featured guests and keynote speakers,” Daines stated. “Colin’s focus on regional energy development and Porter’s experience as an energy and resource advisor are vital additions to our conversation about moving Montana’s all-of-the-above energy potential to the next level.”
Montana Energy 2016 will be held in Billings on March 30-31 and will serve as the largest avenue to discuss Montana’s energy potential. It is back for a third round this spring with a fresh new look and perspective. Led by Daines, the two-day comprehensive conference will continue the discussion around state and national energy opportunities and provide an all-encompassing look at Montana’s energy potential.
Colin Marshall is President and CEO of Cloud Peak Energy, and is responsible for company operations. The company operates three Powder River Basin coal mines in Wyoming and Montana. Previously, Colin was President and CEO of Rio Tinto Energy America (RTEA) prior to the company’s public offering as Cloud Peak Energy (CLD). Preceding RTEA, Colin was the General Manager of Rio Tinto’s West Pilbara iron ore operations. He was located in Tim Price, West Australia, where he managed four iron ore mines. Colin began his career with Rio Tinto group in 1987 as a Graduate Trainee. He then worked for Rio Tinto plc in London as an analyst in the Business Evaluation Department before moving to Brisbane in 1996 as Finance Director of Pacific Coal. In 2000 he was appointed General Manager of Rio Tinto Energy America’s Cordero Rojo mine in Wyoming. He served in that role until March 2004 when he moved to Tom Price. Colin holds both a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from Brunel University and an MBA from London Business School.
Porter Bennett is the Founder, President and CEO of Ponderosa Advisors, an advisory firm for the energy, agriculture and water sectors that includes subsidiaries Ponderosa Energy and Water Sage. Prior to this role, Porter was the CEO of BENTEK Energy, which he founded in 1985 and sold to Platts/McGraw Hill in 2011. During his tenure at BENTEK, Porter led the evolution of the company from an energy industry consulting firm specializing in supply and demand analysis to today’s leading provider of market information and analysis for the natural gas, NGL and oil industries. Porter has served as Vice President of the Western Energy Alliance and Chairman of its Natural Gas Committee, has been an Observer with the Potential Gas Committee, participated on the Coordinating Subcommittee of the recent National Petroleum Council natural gas study and is a member of the International Gas Union Strategy Committee. He holds a MS Degree in Mineral Economics from the Colorado School of Mines, a MA Degree in International Affairs from Columbia University and a BA Degree in History from Lewis & Clark College.
